The Year Where We Light the Cauldron!

Well well well! It's 2020!

I am very excited for this year. Way back in 2016 I started talking publicly about attending the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and that year is actually here. Unbelievable.

My preparations are nearing completion, and now I just have to make sure I don't get too indulgent and buy more tickets than I can afford! (A big swath of tickets dropped yesterday, but by the time I saw what was available there wasn't anything I was dying to get.)

Some news dropped last week that Japan Airlines was offering 50,000 free flights for domestic flights from Tokyo to other locations in Japan. I am very, very interested in this; though my vacation is a bit limited, I could stretch it if necessary! The offer begins in February. I'll keep everyone posted!

But this is all planning for stuff that's still seven months away. What am I going to do before then?

I'm going to start a new series of blog posts dedicated to the name of this blog: Light the Cauldron! Each month I am going to highlight the history of the Olympic flame, the torch relay, and the cauldron lighting at the Olympic Games. (I'll probably just stick to summer so I can spread out the love as we get closer to 2022 in Beijing.)

Another monthly series will continue my updates to my trip. Not only will there be successes as I purchase things, but I'll also start to highlight certain areas of Tokyo that I want to visit - from restaurants to food items to shops to tourist attractions!

I'm looking forward to keeping an eye on Olympic hopefuls as they work on their training and get ready for their respective nation's trials. I might take closer look at certain sports that I will be attending and highlight athletes that I might see.

This year leading up to the Games is going to be so exciting. And then when it's time for the Olympics, I am beyond excited to post blogs and vlogs of my experiences! Yup - I said "vlogs." I'm working on preparing a camera and seeing if I can use that instead of my phone. Unlike my Europe 2017 blogs, I don't think I'm going to have enough time to post content daily (I'll let my Twitter account be the best way to follow me while I'm actually in Tokyo), but that just means that my August and September content is going to be marvelous!

So now that you know my plans for this year, it's up to me to keep up with my goals! I'm thrilled to be able to share my experiences with all of you, and hope you can share my posts with your friends who are fans of Japan, sports, travel, or all three!
